Old Glory

October 14th, 2009 · 1 Comment · US Navy

UPDATE, Fri, 16 Oct 2009: Yay me!!  This photo was selected out of 3 I submitted for web publication in the Navy’s Visual News service at www.navy.mil.  You can see it here.

Another photo from Big Al’s retirement from a few weeks ago (no, this is *not* the pic o’ the day!).

At many retirement ceremonies these days there is a flag presentation that is sort of neat.  5 or so unit members, usually from the most junior enlisted in the unit to a rank equal to the retiree (or some reasonable facsimile thereof) pass a flag, properly folded and, in my and Big Al’s case, flown over the capital (for what THAT is worth…/snark off), in a solemn and poignant ceremony while a narrarator reads a script of what Old Glory has meant over the years.   The whole thing is not too bad.

Hey, that sounds like a pretty cool part of the ceremony. And, yes, it’s still nice to have a flag that was flown over the Capitol.

    I like the picture, too.
