I used to say, back when the Russians were fooling around with carrier operations, that I’d give a month’s salary to watch their first serious flight ops – and count the number of people who get blown overboard and how many planes they splash. Pretty much the same with the Chinese.
Its taken us over 100 years to get to the level of capability we have with aircraft carrier operations and I have to chuckle – whether it is the Russians or the Chinese – who think all they need is an aircraft carrier and they can turn it into a viable military asset.
I’m not putting anything by these guys – any nation who has as its main export a trillion dollars worth of cheap crap to fill Wal-Mart shelves can obviously do *something*, but to do that *something* so it is meaningful is something totally different.
