China lands first jet on its aircraft carrier | Fox News.

I used to say, back when the Russians were fooling around with carrier operations, that I’d give a month’s salary to watch their first serious flight ops – and count the number of people who get blown overboard and how many planes they splash.  Pretty much the same with the Chinese.

Its taken us over 100 years to get to the level of capability we have with aircraft carrier operations and I have to chuckle – whether it is the Russians or the Chinese – who think all they need is an aircraft carrier and they can turn it into a viable military asset.

I’m not putting anything by these guys – any nation who has as its main export a trillion dollars worth of cheap crap to fill Wal-Mart shelves can obviously do *something*, but to do that *something* so it is meaningful is something totally different.

That J15 is not just based on an SU-33 that looks like a twin! Don’t forget they are great at reverse engineering technology. Well, mostly great at it. Should be interesting to see how they handle carrier ops. I’m sure we won’t hear anything else for a long while, as I doubt they’d want to report having to build more J15’s to replace the ones that went swimming.

And since they used thumb drives to hack into DOD as well as their forays into DOE and other places they probably have all of our “reference” materials from our 10o years to help them as well. That being said one 30 AC carrier is, well, just one. I doubt their interested in policing much outside their sphere but only time will tell. Likely, the use this boat to cut their teeth and then for training while they build a bigger boat. Its gonna be an interesting future with them….
