Names of naval personnel who died on Dec 7th, 1941, at the USS Arizona memorial, Pearl Harbor.
“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.”
George S. Patton
Bunker oil still seeps out from the wreckage, 70 years later. USS Arizona (BB 39) had, on the day prior to 7 Dec, 1941, finished a full refueling operation, so her tanks wire filled with fuel oil. To this day, you can see the oil, still seeping out, bubbling up in small and large bubbles, breaking the surface with that rainbow hue of oily residue, marking her resting place. I took this picture during a navy trip to Pearl Harbor back in 2000.
Thank you, all you veterans who have come before us and will serve after us
