UPDATE: From the “Don’t Dick With The Boy Scouts” file…
Balzano said he and seven other executive officers of the local SEIU stepped down.
It isn’t apparent whether Balzano apologized or not. Silly me – why would I think that he would?

From the “You’ll Never Guess What The Liberal Morons Are Doing Now” file…
A Pennsylvania union leader has come under fire after threatening legal action against the city of Allentown for allowing a Boy Scout to voluntarily clear a walking path in a local park.
Nick Balzano, president of the Service Employees International
Union’s Allentown chapter, said last week that the union might file a grievance against the city for allowing 17-year-old Kevin Anderson to clear the hiking trail, instead of paying some of the 39 recently laid-off SEIU members to do the work.
Balzano’s office did not return messages left by FoxNews.com
, but the Morning Call quoted him as telling the city council that the union would be “looking into the Cub Scout
or Boy Scout who did the trails … There’s to be no volunteers.”
In defense of the union in question, a spokesman left no doubt as to how the union front office was going to spin this:
SEIU spokesman Matt Nerzig called Balzano’s comments “completely unauthorized and insensitive” and said the union was “not at all” considering a grievance in this case.
“Not sure if it was out of context or just a bad moment, but we’ve got no intention of doing anything like that,” Nerzig told FoxNews.com. “Not sure where he got the idea but he certainly doesn’t have the authority to do so.”
In other words? “Balzano?? You are on your own with this one, pal!”
Still, SEIU are not exactly the Flavor of the Month these days:
- SEIU President Andy Stern sits on ACORN’s advisory council, and while the left will *still* defend ACORN, most people understand the corrupt and lying aspects of that “community service” organization.
- A SEIU official had talks with impeached governor of Illionois Rod Blagojevich to discuss giving Obama’s recently vacated senate seat to a candiate of SEIU persuasion.
- In the irony of ironies, SEIU is being sued by…..another Union for…..not being fair to its Union workers. The Union of Union Representatives (hah…no…seriously…that is the union’s name) has filed unfair labor practices charges against SEIU with the National Labor relations Board. The staff union’s leaders say that SEIU is engaging in the same kind of practices that some businesses use — laying off workers without proper notice, contracting out work to temp firms, banning union activities and reclassifying workers to reduce union numbers.
- Who did SEIU first endorse for President last year? Mr. Integrity Himself…..John Edwards! Nice going, SEIU. A little slow on the “honor” uptake, I see.
Now that they have the “Sue The Boy Scouts for Performing Community Service” merit badge, all they need now is to beat up some poor minorit….umm…..wait a minute….
- [In August of this year]… a black gentleman named Kenneth Gladney went to a town-hall meeting hosted by Rep. Russ Carnahan, Missouri Democrat. While passing out “Don’t Tread on Me” flags, he was viciously attacked by Service Employees International Union (SEIU) members. One called him a “nigger.” Who led this Union activity? None other than Elston McGowan, the Public Service Director of SEIU Local 2000 and a local Baptist minister. What is REALLY hilarious (and so so so so Liberal) is that a few weeks after McGowen led the pummeling of Gladney, the SEIU Local 2000 director applied to the SEIU for workman’s compensation for the injury he suffered at the Carnahan rally while beating Ken Gladney.
I swear….you can’t make this stuff up.

When that happened to Mr. Gladney, it just was like — wait, what?? Am I misunderstanding what I’m reading? This can’t be. But — yes, it can. And it was.
So if the union response to Mr. Gladney wasn’t bad enough, we have now this latest episode of sheer stupidity — while perhaps showing the frustrations of some of the union leaders — it unfortunately shows me the worst of this union.
Of course, to be PC let me put in the disclaimer of, yes, probably not everyone in that union is a bad person or acts in reprehensible ways. Just seems they got the corner on quite a few idiots.

Geez you would think that the RICO laws might be useful here. These people act to intimidate and persuade people and they aren’t afraid to use violence to achieve their goals.

It does cause old warhorses like us to wonder, doesn’t it?
The SEIU/ACORN seems to be of the mind that with there number one fan at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, they are untouchable. But the press from the above noted instances is having a very negative effect on them. As it well should.
And rkwhyte2 does pose a valid point, the RICO statutes would seem to more than applicable here, and I am not a lawyer.
And I gave these people the best twenty years of my life. Sheesh!
