To all you retired Navy dudes….
Is there any reason to keep uniforms? Any of them? I’ll take the mess dress down and see if anyone wants them in the unit – they are only 3-4 years old (unlike the nicely jaundiced choker whites which date from the mid-80’s).
I can’t think of any reason to keep them – especially the khaki.
Just looking for some thoughts…
No, the cat does not go with them.

Pinch, keep them. One day you will have grandchildren, and you can put them on for your grandkids. Seriously. They are badges of honor that you worked hard to earn. Never forget that you served our nation. Keep them for a reminder of that.

I kept one set each of jumper uniforms, blue and white. I had two sets of Blues and four sets of Whites by the time I was retired out in the draw down. I doubt that I could even get into them. I was a little more svelte 16 years ago and the Blue Jumper has a sipper in one side!

Pinch,
I kept dress blues, whites and mess dress. The rest I intend to give to the Navy Relief at Anacostia, if I can ever nug out when they are open. Put all the insignae in a shoe box, and let the grandkids play with it in future years.

I can’t imagine getting rid of them!!
If you feel you really want to, at least wait a bit. Don’t do it right away. You worked hard for those uniforms. Maybe just let the idea simmer a bit.

Ask your Dad…
The one question is… will you wear one to either of your daughter’s weddings?

Keep them.
I retired in Italy and put them in a box under the house.
The Italian town where I live is a paradise which sees a million and a half tourists a year.
I was approached by town officials a year after 9/11 and asked to “represent the American people” at a concert for those who died in that attack, their families, and the American people, AND to wear my uniform so everybody would see me.
Imagine being asked such a question and not having a uniform to wear ?
I was, further asked to attend my son’s graduation from Air Force Weapons School in Mess Dress. He is flying B-1’s presently deployed in a Middle East country supporting the troops on the ground in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Kept my dress blues, aviation greens, choker whites and one set of khakis…It must be a Chief thing.

I kept them all because I can’t find them to give them – or throw them – away.

Keep the dress mess. You’ll need it next year when you accompany met to the ACV awards banquet.

Hmm… an extra T seems to have slipped in there. Oops!

Mess dress, FbL.
Dress mess is what happens when the post-prom party gets out of hand.

LOL! I know that–I blame it on my dyslexia and inability to type properly in that comment.

Any chance you might be attending a Battle of Midway dining-out, or similar event where mess dress or dress uniforms are requested?
How about Veterans’ Day gatherings or special occasions?
If so, and you wish to be in uniform rather than in civilian garb, I’d keep them.

I retired almost 19 years ago and had my uniforms either hanging in the closet or properly stowed in the seabag. Hurricane Andrew came through and I lost all those uniforms. Several years ago I started getting involved in some veterans things where some wore the uniform at various functions. What finally got me off my duff was I was asked to participate in a local school’s Veterans day program and asked if I could wear my uniform. Since I had not replaced the uniforms after the hurricane I couldn’t wear my blues but it got me thinking. I now have a brand new set of Dress Blues, just in case.

I’ve found that cats generally like to make beds out of expensive uniforms. You might want to check with the cat to see if it has any desire to keep it.

You guys ALL rock!!! Especially my old man!
I’ll keep the service dress blues, one set of the summer whites and the mess dress. You all have convinced me that saving those items is no big deal, and who knows – I just might get the opportunity to wear them again!!!
Thanks
