So Obama knows Space now. The modus operandi is becoming clear. Like Virginia offshore drilling and health care, it is a “set a goal so far out in the future any responsibility for making it would be well beyond his term” policy. That way he can’t be blamed for the abysmal failure these policies are going to be. Plus with this NASA thing, it makes us beholden to the Russians, which makes us more like the rest of the world – followers instead of leaders. Thanks Mr President!

By the end of the year the US will be without a manned space program for the first time since I was in grammar school (1961).
The Chinese and Russians have manned programs that will continue well into the future. The Chinese have vowed to send a man to the moon. The Iranians, Japanese and Indians are working towards manned programs in the near future.
I have always been led to believe that they who hold the high ground will persevere. This means that we shall not.
